How my journey began

Hello, I'm Beccie.

I specialise in trauma, abuse, relationships and family issues.

You see, I've also suffered from trauma and abuse too. I understand the difficulty you must be feeling right now, and I want to help you with that. I also know that you might well be feeling that I can't help you; that no one can.

That's where I differ as not only am I a counsellor, I've also experienced trauma and abuse, and that's the very reason I've spent years training and gaining experience to help other people, just like you (and me).

World renowned therapist, Brian Thorne once said 'You can only go as far as your therapist has been'. If that's true, you can go far with me, because like my company name suggests, I'm Just Like You. I understand the lasting effects - the scars - that trauma and abuse can leave, of which, I'll say now, some may not heal. But, just because they might not heal, doesn't mean we can't find a way to build a fulfilling life around them.

But it's not about me, it's about you, and the circumstances that led to you reading this.

Experiencing trauma can make life feel difficult, painful, overwhelming and at times pointless - it affects everyone differently! You might be feeling scared, anxious, depressed, angry, disappointed, ashamed, all-consuming loneliness, or all of these and more. It would be an honour to help you through these agonising times!

Your story is unique to you and we work at your pace, not mine. I often like to think of counselling as you and I working on a jigsaw puzzle together. Only for me, this puzzle is upside down because I'm not about to make any assumptions that I know better what it is that you need. As time passes and you tell me about your life, we start to turn those pieces over and then we put them together. Some of these pieces need may to have parts added or removed to make them fit but the aim is that once you come to the end of counselling, you leave with a better understanding of who you are without the symptoms of trauma and a new set of skills to move forward in life.

So, if you're ready, book an initial 30 minute chat with me (it's free). This can be either via zoom, telephone or face to face. Having this chat not only gives us a chance to get to know each other and see if we're a good fit but it also allows you a chance to ask questions and express your hopes and fears about therapy
